Rich, emotional imagery immerses the reader with a young kid who is developing coping skills that can help get them through even the most frustrating day. No matter the distance, our love is our own special golden string keeping us connected.

Author and illustrator Geoffry Smalley is originally from Chicago, where he grew up, got married, received an MFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and eventually had a kid. He and his family transplanted to Portland, Oregon, in 2017, and they love it there. He cut his teeth in old-school art departments doing key line and paste-up, in printshops pulling lithographs, grinding stones, and polishing copper plates, on delivery routes, painting houses, teaching kids and adults of many stripes, freelancing, muraling, exhibiting, and fixing broken art. The Golden String is his first children’s book.
