This uniquely illustrated book allows the readers to develop their knowledge of colors and the living natural world at Mequon Nature Preserve and beyond. ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Kristin Gies has been the Executive Director of the Mequon Nature Preserve since 2007; living her dream by giving back to the community she grew up in and with a career that she is passionate about.
Peter Tonn has been a graphic designer for a wide variety of corporate clients for over 40 years, and is enthusiastic to help strengthen the MNP brand with a system of educational materials, environmental signage, publications and event graphics.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:
Hannah's bold colorful style utilizes pattern and texture to pop off the page and into the reader's imagination. Happiest when it's snowing, she lives in Wisconsin with her husband, son and cat. Always inspired by her parents to draw her own lines versus coloring within them, Hannah creates a bright take on our natural world in her illustrative debut.
ABOUT MEQUON NATURE PRESERVE:
Mequon Nature Preserve, Inc., a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, provides FREE hands-on science field trips to thousands of Milwaukee area school children and has set out to restore the beech maple forest and wooded wetlands that existed on the property prior to European Settlement. All programs and activities are funded by charitable contributions. This 510-acre protected natural area has over six miles of trails, an observation tower, a natural play space, and an education center. The PieperPower Education Center, located at 8200 West County Line Road, Mequon, Wisconsin, is MNP’s hub for outdoor activities and community programs. Mequon Nature Preserve is FREE for everyone to enjoy the trails and beautiful outdoors spaces 365 days a year!
We acknowledge that Mequon Nature Preserve lies on traditional Menominee, Potawatomi, and Ho-Chunk homeland at the division of two watershed systems near the southwest shores of Lake Michigan, part of North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes. On this site, the people of Wisconsin’s Menominee, Ojibwe, Ho-Chunk, Oneida, and Mohican sovereign nations remain present to this day.
Mequon Nature Preserve's mission is to be a guiding example of habitat restoration by returning the land to a mosaic of forests, prairies, and wetlands and to establish an educational conservancy that inspires exploration and cultivates stewardship. We work to instill environmental empathy and action into the consciousness of surrounding communities.
